The Gates

We visited The Gates in Central Park on Tuesday Feb. 16, a mild February day in New York. Mild enough to walk through Central Park comfortably, to eat lunch outside in a cafe and to get a little sun as it appeared through the overcast sky from time to time. We were amazed at the breadth of the installation and at the many different perspectives, every time you saw a new vista it was different!. We had some doubts before we went-cost was 21 million-but Christo paid for this himself. We saw souveniers for sale, but proceeds were for the City. We thought after seeing the Gates it was a very positive experience for us and NY. Thousands of people were out in the Park viewing and taking their own pictures, there was a cheerful happy atmostphere, and many strangers were chatting with each other!
